Summer Research Institute

Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Libraries and the Popular Culture Association (PCA) are pleased to announce the 2024 Summer Research Institute. A select group of researchers from across the country and abroad will be given the opportunity to work directly with the most comprehensive popular culture archive of its kind in the United States. Primarily intended for active researchers inside and outside academia, the Institute is also open to advanced graduate students who plan to use the collections in their teaching and research. 

All interested attendees should complete the application below by April 19, 2024 for consideration. This is an extension from the previous deadline of April 12. The committee will review applications and notify all candidates of their acceptance at the end of April.

Registration Fee:
$150 (Due upon acceptance.)

A limited number of $450 travel grants will be awarded. Applicants should indicate their interest on the Institute application. 

  • In order to receive a travel grant, the attendee must have a minimum travel need of 50 miles or more. Selection criteria will be based on the quality of the proposal and collection use demonstrated in the Summer Research Institute application.
  • Travel grant recipients are encouraged to present the results of their work at a regional or national PCA/ACA conference, and are required to attend the Institute in it's entirety. Late arrival or early departure may result in the cancellation of funding.
  • Funds will be dispersed upon completion of the Institute. 

A limited number of rooms at a discounted rate is available at the Best Western Falcon Plaza. The hotel is within walking distance of the BGSU campus and serves continental breakfast each morning. Lunch will be provided for all attendees for the duration of the Institute.

The nearest airport to BGSU is Detroit Metro (DTW), a 90-minute drive to Bowling Green.

All travel expenses will be at the cost of Institute attendees.
