Greetings! It is my responsibility to provide academic advising to Honors students while promoting student leadership and involvement opportunities meant to enhance your learning experience.
I am available and look forward to helping you access the many resources available to BGSU students as you work toward achieving your educational goals ... including graduating with University Honors!
Prior to serving as the associate dean for the Honors College, I worked in a variety of areas, including academic advising, admissions, student involvement, service learning and residence life at Owens Community College, The University of Toledo and the University of Akron. I earned my Ph.D. in higher education administration from BGSU, my M.A. in student development from Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina) and my B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Toledo.
When I am not working with the Honors College, I spend time with family and enjoy home improvement and gardening projects. I also volunteer with the Wood County CASA program to advocate for abused, neglected and dependent children in our area. My husband, Eric, is a polymer engineer in North Baltimore. I have a daughter, Katherine Minda (Katie), and a son, Jackson Matthew (Jack).
Please contact me if I can assist you or if you just want to talk!
I have been a Falcon since 1995 when I came to the University to work on my Ph.D. in the Department of English after completing a double B.A. in English and communication at Bluffton College. In 2000, I earned my Ph.D. and began teaching full time for the University Writing Program.
At BGSU I have taught courses in first-year writing, literature, women’s studies, and lesbian and gay studies. I have been named twice in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, have been nominated for the Distinguished Lecturer/Instructor Award from the College of Arts and Sciences and was named BGSU’s 2010 Master Teacher Award winner by the Student Alumni Connection.
One of my favorite parts of being a faculty member in the Honors College is that I have the unique opportunity to design classes on a wide variety of unusual subjects and to teach those classes to students from across a range of majors and educational experiences. Over the past several years, I have taught Special Topic Seminars on:
- Demystifying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
- (Re-)Visioning Oz (on adaptations of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz)
- Tracking the Vampire: Bloodsuckers in Literature and Film from Carmilla to Edward Cullen
- “Happily Ever After:” Adaptations and Retellings of “Sleeping Beauty”
- Exhuming the Walking Dead: The Rise of Zombies in Contemporary American Culture
- Deliciously Addictive Dexter: What Jeff Lindsay’s Serial Killer Says About Those Who Watch, Read, and Adore Him
In addition to Special Topics Seminars, I regularly teach the core curriculum Honors classes and Presidential Honors. I also serve as an advisor on Honors Projects.
When I am not teaching, I most enjoy spending time with my partner, Gary, and our three “kids”/cats, Licorice, Ani and Kit. I am an obsessive fan of “The Golden Girls “(Blanche is my favorite character!), the Harry Potter series (Hermione is awesome!), and indie music (Joshua Radin rocks!). I watch way too much television and will watch pretty much anything from “Top Chef” to “Project Runway” to “Grey’s Anatomy” to “Hot in Cleveland” to “Weeds” and “Wipeout.” And I enjoy reading, especially series mystery fiction by and about women “detectives.” (Some of my favorites are Sue Grafton’s alphabet series, Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, Earlene Fowler’s Bennie Harper series and Mary Daheim’s Bed & Breakfast series.)
I love working with students in and outside of the classroom, and I welcome the opportunity to sit down and chat with Honors students. So, whether you’re in my classes or not, feel free to stop by my office, introduce yourself and say “hello.”
I teach the core Honors courses: HNRS 2010: Introduction to Critical Thinking and HNRS 2020: Critical Thinking About Great Ideas.
I earned my Ph.D. in English and education at the University of Michigan, my M.A.T. in secondary education from Western New Mexico University, and my B.A. in English literature from Miami University.
Prior to completing my Ph.D., I worked for more than a decade as a middle and high school English and Native American literature teacher in New Mexico. At the post-secondary level, I have taught courses in first-year writing and teacher education. I enjoy researching and writing about social annotation and inclusive educational assessment.
When I’m not working, I love to read fiction – literary, historical, fantasy and romance. My two kids, Natalie and Aubrey, are also rarely without a stack of books, and you can often find us sprawled on the sofa with our cat, Lily.
Students are my favorite part of my work and I look forward to seeing you in my office or hearing from you.
I provide academic advising for Honors College students and assist with the Honors Projects process and forms.
I am originally from Pennsylvania. I earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Mansfield University and a Master of Science in college student personnel from Shippensburg University. Previously, I worked in advising, admissions, residence life and housing.

I am also a graduate of the Honors College and a member of the 2016 Presidential Scholars cohort. Prior to this position, I was a BGSU admissions counselor working with students in southwest Ohio.

I’m typically the first person you see when visiting the office. I can help you with things from making an appointment with your advisor to getting you advising forms. I’m here to help the students, staff and faculty in any way I can!
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my two daughters, Parker and Piper, and our dog, Rocky. I grew up outside of Bowling Green. We love to enjoy the park, library and restaurants here in town, but the Toledo Zoo is one of our favorite places.
Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help you.
I provide support to faculty members in creating a vibrant academic environment where every student can excel.
