Dr. Kuhl received her PhD in Sociology from The Ohio State University in 2007. Trained in criminology, her research agenda examines how neighborhoods and life course events shape risks for offending and victimization. She employs quantitative methods and uses data from secondary surveys like the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) to explore longitudinal associations between adolescent victimization and adult outcomes, such as criminal offending, substance use, and marriage.
Dr. Kuhl teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology, juvenile delinquency, introduction to sociology, neighborhoods and crime, and criminological theory. She has published papers in several peer-reviewed journals, including American Sociological Review, Criminology, and American Journal of Criminal Justice.
Dr. Kuhl served as Chairperson of Sociology from 2021-2025.
