ART 1020 – Data Hybrids

In these artworks, students explored creating ways of presenting encoded data.

For “Data Question”, an event was researched and encoded (e.g., temperature changes in a specific place to raise questions and concerns about global warming using color, size changes, and Morse code; movements of a body in a vehicle during a specific trip; sounds in a specific song to make a layered pattern; etc.).

For “Hybrid Pieces”, a hybrid symbol was created by overlapping contours of object details.  Students then created small collages, exploring materials, layers, and making new meaning by combining their hybrid symbol with a random found image from an art magazine (given to them in class).
