BGSU's Hank Blumenthal finds himself ‘In the Soup’ once again Jun 11, 2018 7:00 AM Dr. Hank Blumenthal, a BGSU VCT assistant professor, reunited with the cast and crew of “In the Soup,” a 1992 movie he produced, at the 2108 Tribeca Film Festival. The Sundance Grand Prize-winning indie comedy was one of only three films selected for the Retrospective portion of the festival.

From sea to shining sea Jun 11, 2018 7:00 AM Former U.S. Army Sgt. Sarah Lee '09 is bringing awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder by biking across the country. Her trip originated in May 2017 but was cut short after an accident. Lee is back on the road and hopes to finish in August.

VCT student photographing Wood County for 200th anniversary Apr 16, 2018 7:00 AM Taylor Houpt is working with the Wood County Historical Center and Museum in Bowling Green to document the county’s past, present and future as well as the culture. Since May 2017, she has visited towns, historical landmarks and events, taking photographs to help celebrate Wood County’s 200th anniversary.

Art Supply Depo hosting photo exhibit by BGSU alumna Mar 21, 2018 9:00 AM Art Supply Depo, 435 E. Wooster St. in Bowling Green, is hosting "Test Plot," a 13-photo exhibit by BGSU alumna Bianca Garza, a 2012 graduate in visual communication technology. Juxtaposing the natural with the manmade, Garza’s images of found objects are disturbing but subtle reminders of society’s effects on earth.

VCT program at BGSU Firelands opens up dream opportunity Nov 6, 2017 8:16 AM Chad Butler, a visual communications technology major at BGSU Firelands, interned over the summer with NFL Films. More than 1,600 videographers applied, and he was one of the few chosen for what essentially was a three-month tryout to assist one of NFL Films’ best cameramen for the 2017 NFL season.

Class of 2017 Success Stories: President’s Award recipient prides herself on hard work May 12, 2017 10:17 AM Meghan Murray, a third-generation Falcon and a President’s Award recipient, is graduating from BGSU’s visual communication technology program with a 4.0 GPA. During her time at the University, Murray edited a national PBS show while at WBGU-TV and helped edit an Emmy Award-nominated documentary.

Author captures children’s hearts Oct 31, 2016 7:00 AM A book by BGSU alumna Ana Crespo '02 about a Brazilian boy who finds a clever way to make his own soccer ball has earned an award. Crespo received the 2016 International Latino Book Award in the “Best Latino-Focused Children’s Picture Books, Bilingual” category for “The Sock Thief: A Soccer Story.”

Taylor, who played for the Women’s Basketball team, works for Google, and is a senior interaction designer at YouTube.

By 14 she owned her own copy of Photoshop and by 15, after teaching herself how to design and code websites, she was taking on freelance projects for both local and international companies.

Alumnus Soars Jul 28, 2014 7:00 AM Having spent his entire career in the military, before retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) Robert Gauthier decided to advance his education and career by completing a bachelor’s degree. At about the same time he retired from the Air Force in October 2013, he received a Bachelor of Science in Technology degree from BGSU, though he never stepped foot on the campus. His degree in learning design and technology (LDT) was done completely online and during times that were convenient for him to “attend classes.”

VCT: The Beginning Jun 30, 2014 7:00 AM Dr. William Travers Jerome III was a change agent when he arrived in 1963 as the sixth president of BGSU. For one of his initiatives, Jerome hired Dr. Jerry Streichler to lead a major effort to develop and implement curricula that would more truly reflect the technology (processes and organization) of various categories of industry. The goal was to replace the “shop teacher” education programs with curricula that would better prepare teachers for the schools and also prepare specialists to serve in leadership positions in diverse industries.

To honor the accomplishments of our recent alumni, the BGSU 10 Under 10 Award was established. The 2018 class was honored during Homecoming Oct. 12.

Teaching Kitchen gets high marks in, out of the classroom Bowling Green State University added some culinary flair to campus with the debut of the Teaching Kitchen, located in The Oaks dining hall. With the opening, BGSU Dining Services found that students and community members have been hungry to learn more about food through cooking classes, demonstrations and tastings.
