Dr. Arsenio Rodrigues is an AIA award winning architect and serves as Director of the School of the Built Environment. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Rodrigues served as Director of the Architecture Program and Assistant Dean of the School of Architecture at Prairie View A&M University (Texas) - one of only seven NAAB-accredited Historically Black College/University (HBCU) architecture programs in the nation. Over the years, Dr. Rodrigues has secured several professional certifications including, National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB); Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accreditation (LEED AP); Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC); Health Systems and Design Certification; and Straw Bale Design/Build Certification. Dr. Rodrigues is a licensed architect in India and the United States, and he has worked professionally on several high profile design projects, including residential, commercial, institutional, and urban planning in various capacities with architecture, planning, and design-build firms around the world.

Dr. Rodrigues has generated a unique area of research that has contributed significantly to the theory of place-making and sustainable design. In conjunction with his research interests, he has presented peer-reviewed research papers at several national and international conferences and symposia, including publications in peer-reviewed journals. Over the years, he has been invited to present his work and research at several institutions and he has served in the capacity of Associate Editor for several peer-reviewed journals, including book reviews for Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group and Oxford University Press. His teaching expertise encompasses an array of subjects including, Architecture Design, Structural Systems, Theory of Place-making, Sustainable and Zero-Energy Design, Design Foundations, Design Communications, Photography-Digital Imaging, Directed Graduate Research and Honors Projects. Dr. Rodrigues is the recipient of over forty scholarships, fellowships, grants, and awards. His teaching and direct involvement with students in the classroom has resulted in over twenty student competition awards at the regional and national level.

In 2017, Dr. Rodrigues was invited by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) to travel to Japan, where he was designated a Japan Studies Institute Fellow. In 2024, Dr. Rodrigues was awarded the Israel Faculty Fellowship to travel to Israel to continue his research on place-making with counterpart faculty, architects and universities in Israel. Dr. Rodrigues has served as a juror on Ohio’s Percent for Art Commission, and he is currently serving as Faculty Ambassador for the P.J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at BGSU.

In 2022, Dr. Rodrigues was appointed by the American Institute of Architects Ohio Board to serve as its AIA Ohio Schools Director on the AIA Ohio Board of Directors. In 2023, Dr. Rodrigues was appointed as Trustee on the AIA Ohio Foundation. And, in 2022, Dr. Arsenio Rodrigues was awarded the “Architect of the Year Award” by the American Institute of Architects Toledo for his commitment to the profession, lifelong creative work and accomplishments in the field of architecture.
