BGSU celebrates 50 years in Spain | Two-factor email authentication begins today

BGSU celebrates 50 years en España
Alumni and students come together in Alcalá de Henares

Bowling Green State University recently celebrated 50 years of its Study Abroad Spain program, which is conducted in partnership with Centro Universitario Cardenal Cisneros (CUCC) in Alcalá de Henares, located on the outskirts of culture-rich Madrid. “BGSU en España, te extraña” (translated "BGSU in Spain misses you") was attended by program alumni, current students, faculty and staff, local partners who offer internship opportunities, host families and dignitaries, including BGSU President Rodney Rogers and Dr. Monserrat Giménez Hernández, executive director of the CUCC.

The three-day celebration included an agreement renewal ceremony on the evening of the first day, confirming both universities’ commitment to an exceptional program that has helped form highly effective global citizens across disciplines for a half century. According to Dr. Philip Peek, chair of BGSU World Languages and Cultures, the immersive program has proven transformational for many.

“Study Abroad Spain features cutting edge instruction in a well-established curriculum,” Peek said. “The emphasis is on experiential learning and high-impact learning strategies that move students outside the classroom into the heart of Spain.”

Two Factor Authentication for email begins today

Today (Aug. 1) is the deadline for faculty and staff to enroll in the mandatory two-factor authentication (Duo) process for email access. Effective today, all faculty and staff must log in to their email accounts in the same way they do for the secure MyBGSU site. The switch for students and other account holders will be implemented shortly as well.

According to Information Technology Services, the move to two-factor authentication is necessary to help protect BGSU email users from inadvertently falling prey to the increasing number of phishing emails encountered, which have led to numerous compromised accounts.

To start using Two Factor Authentication:
  • Log in to MyBGSU and select IT Service Desk from the orange menu at the top of the screen.
  • Select Email Two Factor Authentication from the left navigation menu. Review the table on this page for information regarding which email clients do and do not work with Duo Two Factor Authentication enabled.
  • Move the Current Enhanced Email Security Status slider to ON and select Save.

Users whose devices are not updated to Windows 10 (PC) or Office 2016 (Mac) will not be able to access BGSU email through the Outlook desktop app. (The Outlook mobile app is the only mobile email app supported by ITS.) To schedule an appointment to have a device or devices upgraded, contact the Technology Support Center at 372-0999 or by Live Chat.
