BGSU athletics ranks high in Graduation Success Rate | Firelands Fall Harvest Festival benefits needy

BGSU ATHLETICS RANKS 10TH IN NATION FOR GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE

Bowling Green State University ranks 10th in Division I athletic programs in the nation in Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to the NCAA.

BGSU is in some good company as it ranks behind Notre Dame University (98), Duke University (97), Northwestern University (97), Stanford University (97), Vanderbilt University (96), Boston College (95), University of Central Florida (94), Wake Forest University (94), University of South Carolina (93), and is tied with the University of Minnesota (92).

The University's 92 percent GSR was the highest among all MAC schools, up 3 percent over 2016's results.

"We are so pleased with our standing, both among MAC and national Division I programs,” said BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey. “Our student-athletes have a strong history of academic success and continue to be leaders in the areas of scholarship, athletic talent, leadership and service.”

The Firelands community shows the spirit of sharing and giving at the annual Fall Harvest Festival.
FIRELANDS FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL

Students, faculty and staff at BGSU Firelands shared the bounty of the season on Nov. 15 during the 30th annual Fall Harvest Festival. In exchange for two canned goods or $3, the 285 participants enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal together. The donation drive raised $600 and collected 345 canned and nonperishable goods for the Victory Kitchen and Norwalk Salvation Army — nearly twice as much as last year’s collection. In addition, four large trays of leftover food were also donated to the Victory Kitchen.

REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER POLICIES

As winter approaches, it’s time to review the University’s Emergency Cancellation, Delay and Closing Policy and Procedures.

BGSU is committed to maintaining its class schedule and other student services in all but the most extreme circumstances. If the University is not closed, employees are expected to report to work.

However, safety is the greatest concern. Employees must use their own judgment about whether they can safely travel to the University. They may utilize vacation, personal leave or compensatory time (if applicable) if unable to make it to campus, but should notify their supervisor. The policy outlines all the options and appropriate procedures.

Faculty members are reminded to notify students as soon as possible of any individual class cancellations. Every effort will be made to announce any delay, cancellation or closure by 6 a.m. The news will be shared through AlertBG, email, University social media channels and the news media. This is also a good time to log in to MyBGSU to review your phone number and settings in the AlertBG System.

ZOOM NEWS HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Zoom News will not be published Thursday (Nov. 23) or Monday (Nov. 27). It will return Thursday, Nov. 30.
