The fall semester is off to a great start! Whether you are a student, faculty, staff, alumnus or alumna or a friend of this great University, there are so many reasons to be proud!
Student Caitlin Shortridge and her mother were recently recognized as the 2017 Falcon Family of the Year. We are so lucky to have students like Caitlin at BGSU. Her inspiring story represents the grit and resilience in our community.
Our faculty continue to be pioneers in their fields of study. Dr. Yuning Fu is working on a NASA Earth Surface and Interior three-year grant to ensure we have a better understanding of our planet. BGSU students continue to have unique experiences. Read about Tiffany Payne, who studied abroad in Italy.
October signals the start of our winter sports! Hockey drops the puck, and the men’s and women’s basketball teams have announced their schedules. Return to campus and catch a game. Cheer on our Falcons!
In two weeks, we'll be in the midst of celebrating Homecoming! Be a part of the Campaign Premiere on Friday, October 13 in the newly renovated University Hall. RSVP to Sarah Brokamp at 419-372-0352 or sbrokamp@bgsu.edu.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich appointed Drew Forhan ’81 of Hudson, Ohio, to the BGSU Board of Trustees. Mr. Forhan served as a trustee in his undergraduate years. Megan Newlove of Bowling Green and Daniel Keller of Huron, Ohio, were recently elected as chair and vice-chair of the Board of Trustees. With the addition of student Kyle Johnson of Ontario, Ohio, it is shaping up to be another successful year, and we are thankful for the leadership of the Board of Trustees.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Jerome Library, BGSU will host astronaut and author Mark Kelly for its Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories lecture series on Tuesday, October 24! The event is free and open to the public; an RSVP is required. Join us for this unique learning opportunity!
I hope you can return home this semester and experience all the great happenings at BGSU!
Regards,
Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
