The fall semester begins in less than a month! We're eager for our new and returning students to be on campus soon.
We’ve been so fortunate to serve as a host institute for the Mandela-Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. We spent an intensive six weeks with a truly remarkable group of 25 men and women from all over Africa who came to BGSU to deepen their leadership skills. I appreciate the tremendous efforts of our faculty and graduate students who helped to make BGSU a second home for them.
One of the most humbling aspects of being president is learning how a BGSU
degree has propelled our alumni to change the world. Dr. Shantanu ’86, ’11
(Hon.) and Reni ’86 Narayen are great examples of Falcons who continue to
accomplish so much and remember where it all began. As CEO and
president of Adobe Systems, Shantanu is a pioneer in the technology and
business industries. Dr. Joseph Chao, associate
professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science, has been named the
Shantanu and Reni Narayen Endowed Professor. Their professorship signals their commitment to meeting future workforce needs through education in the classroom!
We are counting down the days until
Family Weekend
and Homecoming. During this
year’s homecoming, we will publically launch Changing Lives for the World: The Campaign for BGSU. I hope you will join me in the newly renovated University Hall to celebrate our work in building a better future for our students.
Bravo! BGSU
is set for Saturday, April 7, 2018! Save the date to attend this
memorable celebration of the arts. From musical performances and art
exhibitions to theater and glass blowing, Bravo! BGSU showcases our
world-class student and faculty talent. Our silent auction will include some one-of-a-kind items!
On August 5, we will be sharing a special occasion with
958 graduates at commencement. It’s the 289th ceremony in University history, and I am so proud of these
students for joining the alumni ranks. Looking forward to sharing their
“Falcon Moments” with you in August!
On August 25 at 10:30 a.m., I will deliver the annual State of the University address. BGSU has accomplished a great deal this past academic year, and we have big plans for the 2017-18 academic year. View the live stream as we map out the path forward for BGSU.
Regards,
Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
