Description: Indie Lens Pop-Up, WBGU-PBS, the Department of Popular Culture and the School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, are proud to announce the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference. The conference will serve as a celebration and screening of the Independent Lens film, "We Want the Funk." The conference will occur from April 25-26.
The Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference will also be a space for academics, graduate students, musicians, music industry professionals, music/sound recording retailers, fans and the public to engage in dialogue about topics related to funk music and its cultural influence in popular music, popular culture and beyond. The scope of the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference is deliberately broad, with the intention of highlighting the interdisciplinary nature and the many different avenues of research and creativity related to funk music in popular culture.
We welcome individual proposals or pre-formed panels that address the themes above. As the conference aims to provide a multitude of perspectives, academic presentations and those from outside the academy are welcome. Individual presentation proposals—papers, music demonstrations or artistic displays—should include a 300-word abstract. Panel or roundtable presentation proposals should include a 300-word abstract for each presenter and a 500-word abstract for the panel or roundtable.

Description: Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. Description: The National Student Employment Association has designated the second full week of April each year to celebrate the invaluable contributions of student employees and student employment professionals.
At Bowling Green State University, our student employees play a crucial role in the daily operation of the university. From the first interaction during recruitment to their graduation and transition into successful careers as BGSU alumni, their efforts are woven into every part of campus life. Their hard work ensures that countless tasks are accomplished across a wide range of departments, making them vital to the university’s success.

12. Outstanding Honors College Faculty Award

Description: This award is presented annually to up to three Honors faculty who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to Honors education at Bowling Green State University. Outstanding commitment to Honors education includes but is not limited to:
- Fostering an atmosphere of intellectual challenge
- Supporting the welfare and academic development of Honors students
- Creating a mentoring relationship grounded in trust and support
The Outstanding Honors Faculty Award recognizes excellence in performance based on any of the following three categories:
- Advising students’ independent projects
- Instructing an Honors College seminar and/or an Honors section of a course (either independent or cross-listed)
- Leading an Honors College extracurricular activity such as chaperoning an Honors College trip, leading a book discussion for Honors College members and much more!
Any Honors College student, staff or faculty member may nominate a professor for this award. Self-nominations are not allowed. Honors students do not need to have completed an Honors project in order to nominate their professor.
To nominate a faculty member, the nominator must write an essay that details the qualities possessed by the professor, the individual nominator’s relationship with the professor and why the nominator thinks the professor deserves the Outstanding Honors Faculty Award. Nominees will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae to the Honors College Council award committee. The Honors College Council reserves the option to conduct an interview with the nominees at the last stage of the selection process.
Nominations will be reviewed by members of the Honors College Council. Nomination essays should be submitted to honors@bgsu.edu by March 14.

Along with submitting your film there, you must fill out the Google form linked on the page and the attached credits document. This helps us keep submissions organized and make sure people get properly credited for their hard work. Not all submitted works are guaranteed to be screened, but all works will be evaluated by our panel of judges and have feedback provided to the filmmaker(s).

Description: Dariush Talai is an internationally recognized Iranian musician, musicologist, composer and educator specializing in the plucked lutes tar and setar. Join the Center for Women and Gender Equity on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, in BTSU 207 for the Women of Color Leadership Summit, an annual event that brings women of color activist-scholars to BGSU to discuss the contributions women of color have made to leadership, activism and advocacy in their communities and more broadly.
This year, the CWGE is collaborating with the Center for Student Connection and Opportunity to integrate the Women of Color Leadership event into the 25th annual Black Issues Conference--allowing us to create a Women of Color Leadership track with invited panelists in the morning sessions and other presenters in the afternoon.
Our panel includes Ash Moon, the Anti-Human Trafficking Specialist and Shelter Advocate at The Cocoon; licensed independent social worker, community advocate and champion for health equity, BreAnn Nelson and Kelli Daniels, owner and lead consultant of JAYRAMON LLC.
Guest speakers will participate in a moderated panel from 9:30-10:25 a.m., followed by an in-depth Question and Answer session from 10:30-11:25 a.m. If you are unable to attend the first session, you may still attend the second.

Description: Soon after Abigail’s tragic death, her long-term partner, Robin, consumed by grief, makes a deal with the devil. They must rid the world of its evil in exchange for the chance to see Abigail again. With misery and vengeance outweighing moral truths and justice, Robin must come face to face with their own morality while the lines between good and evil become blurred.
"Souls for Abigail" is a chamber opera written by Jay Grummel and composed by Steven Naylor. The opera is a part of Praecepta’s 2025 New Music Mini-Festival. Jay Grummel is a current creative writing student and Steven Naylor is a BGSU alumnus. A pre-show artist talk will take place at 1 p.m. and the performance will start at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23. This event is free for students and the public.

2. Classroom/lab software request deadline for Summer/Fall 2025
Description: The deadline for submitting software requests (for classrooms/computer labs/mobile device carts, etc.) for the Summer/Fall 2025 semesters is April 28, 2025. This includes cloud-based software, desktop-based software, mobile apps and domain purchases.
All software submission requests (including Canvas LTI/publisher integrations) are subject to Information Technology Service’s (ITS’) technology review process to be approved for use at BGSU. Software not previously approved by ITS takes approximately 10 business days to be routed through the review process.
To request software installation, please submit a Lab/Classroom Software Install Request form.
Please Note: If you are currently unaware of the location of your class, please still submit your request and note in the Additional Details section that the location is “to be determined”. This will allow ITS to begin working on your request. Once the location is known you can reply to your ticket with that information.
Submissions received after the deadline will be handled in the order received and will not be available for the start of the session/semester.

9. Windows 11 Upgrade: Early access upgrades now available
Description: ITS is working on a project to upgrade the operating system on BGSU university-owned devices from Windows 10 to Windows 11. This includes devices (primary, secondary, group/shared, lab, classroom or digital sign) currently running a version of Windows below Windows 11. This upgrade is necessary as Microsoft plans to end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025.
In the coming months, ITS will schedule automatic upgrade installations on these devices during specific, to be determined and communicated time frames. However, if you would like to upgrade your device(s) early and at your own convenience, you may do so now by contacting the ITS service desk via chat or by phone call at 419-372-0999.
