1. CURS Fall Grant 2024 application round now open

Date and Time: At 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.

Location: Virtual

Description: The application round for the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURS) Fall Grant is now open with a submission deadline of Monday, Sept. 14. A one week extension is possible upon request if sent in advance to cmora@bgsu.edu. Applications can be submitted online under “Fall CURS Grant”.

Undergraduate research/scholarly/creative projects with a faculty mentor in any discipline are funded with up to $500 for the project cost ($750 for a group project of 3-5 students). Each student is expected to work a few hours per week on the project for 10 weeks during the fall semester and will receive a stipend of $200 for their work at the end of the project.

8. Recycling rule - no plastic bags

Description: Recycling reminder from the Office of Campus Sustainability: no plastic bags are allowed in orange recycling dumpsters. Any bag containing recyclables must be dumped into the recycling dumpsters so that they are loose and able to be sorted by Rumpke Recycling. No shopping bags, no packing materials, no produce bags - all bags are to be thrown in the trash... Or taken to our handy dandy plastic bag recycling station in the Union lobby outside of Falcon Outfitters. Another plastic bag recycling station is in the lobby of Falcon Heights for residents. ONLY empty and clean plastic bags go in these locations. Please email us with any questions!

2. Call for Honors 4000 seminar proposals

Description: Faculty are invited to submit proposals for HNRS 4000 seminars. The 1 credit seminars explore topics that intersect with issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and privilege and are intended for first-year and upper-class students.

Fall 2025 seminar proposals are due Oct. 15.

Proposals should include:

• Faculty name and title • Title of class • Term • Description of seminar (up to 500 words) • Description of how students will develop their intercultural knowledge and competence, highlighting how students will achieve level 2 on at least one competency in AACU’s Intercultural Knowledge and Competency VALUE Rubric • Brief statement (approximately 250 words) approach to diversity, equity, inclusion and privilege and a description of any relevant training completed in the last 2 years

Description: Join the CFE workshop, “Promoting Student Success through Active and Guided Inquiry,” led by CFE Faculty Associate and Associate Teaching Professor, Dr. Subha Nagarajan to learn about POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning), a student-centered instructional approach where students collaborate in teams on guided inquiry activities. In this interactive, virtual session, you will learn about the different student roles, the learning cycle and the process skills essential for implementing POGIL in your classroom.

This Community of Practice. This community will explore how you can integrate meaningful service-learning experiences into the curriculum, build sustainable community partnerships and incorporate critical reflection into the service-learning process. All BGSU faculty, adjunct instructors, graduate students and staff are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this community.
