Description: Come to the Creative Minds Series with James Spooner, graphic novelist, filmmaker and tattoo artist. Spooner will present “The Ripple Effect is Wild: How small projects can have huge unexpected impacts” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 in the Donnell Theatre, Wolfe Center for the Arts. Spooner is the award-winning graphic novelist of "The High Desert." He directed the seminal documentary Afro-Punk and also co-founded the AfroPunk Festival. The first 100 attendees will receive a copy of his novel, "The High Desert". Spooner will be available for book signings in the Wolfe Center Lobby immediately following the onstage presentation.

13. Important changes to MyBGSU Employee pages coming soon

Description:Information Technology Services (ITS) is working on design changes to the MyBGSU Employee pages that will enhance the user experience by providing user-friendly access from most devices.

These changes will be implemented across several pages, including the main Employee, Faculty and Advising pages. Employees will notice the new changes on their MyBGSU Employee page as well as other pages located within HCM. Students will not see any changes at this time unless they also have an Employee affiliation.

Employees can look forward to seeing quick view cards, like the current Student Center, which provides easy access to all available details associated with the specific tile/topic.

More information will be shared in the near future including a final date for changes.

14. Volunteer for the annual Falcon BEST Robotics Competition

Description: Volunteer for the annual Falcon BEST Robotics Competition and earn volunteer hours!

Bowling Green State University hosts the only BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) robotics competition in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Over the course of nine weeks, high school student-led teams design a remote-controlled robot and ultimately compete against one another at Falcon BEST. Teams are also judged on their marketing presentation, project engineering notebook, team entrepreneurship interview, robot modeling and video and website design.

We need your help! Robotics expertise not required. Volunteers receive a complimentary lunch and free t-shirt. Full day or session time slots are available.

Description: The BGSU Poll Worker program empowers students to participate in the democratic process by serving as a poll worker. By serving in this role, you will assist with the in-person voting process in the upcoming presidential election. Poll worker tasks include assisting voters, maintaining voting equipment, enforcing election laws and managing polling place operations. Serving as a poll worker provides participants a unique opportunity to support democracy, build valuable skills and network with others. To begin your journey as a poll worker, fill out the Poll Worker interest form on BGSU Serves. After completing the interest form, the local Board of Elections will contact you to discuss the poll worker training process.

2. Classroom/lab software request deadline for Spring 2025

Description: The deadline for submitting software requests (for classrooms/computer labs/mobile device carts, etc.) for the Spring 2025 semester is Oct. 25. This includes cloud-based software, desktop-based software and mobile apps. All software submission requests (including Canvas LTI integrations) are subject to the university’s software review process, which checks that the software meets accessibility, legal and IT security standards with which BGSU must comply. Software not previously approved by the University can take a minimum of 45 days to be routed through the approval process.

Submit a Lab/Classroom Software Install Request to request software installation.

Submissions received after the deadline will be handled in the order received and will not be available for the start of the session/semester.

4. Have you switched to the new BGSU fax service (RightFax)?

Description: RightFax has replaced the old BGSU fax server (faxing directly from email). With the new service, users fax from a web application called FaxUtil. The old fax server will be decommissioned on Oct. 4, after which users will no longer be able to successfully send faxes using this method. If you are still using the old server and wish to maintain fax services, you must request a RightFax account by submitting a BGSU Fax Account Add/Change/Remove form.
