1. Extended deadline for presentation registration for Symposium on Diversity

The submission deadline for presentation registration has been EXTENDED to Friday, Dec. 15. You only need presenter(s) names, title of presentation and brief abstract to register your presentation! CURS can print your poster presentation for you.

Proposals for poster presentations by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff (classified and administrative), are now accepted for:

9th ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON DIVERSITY

Hosted by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Learning, presented by the Beyond the Dream Committee. This event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Jan. 17 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom located in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.

Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, as well as faculty and administrative staff, may submit proposals to give a poster presentation on any topic related to diversity, including but not limited to culture, ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, age, disability and socio-economic status. Both group and individual presentations will be accepted. For student presenters, submissions as part of classroom work, as well as individually faculty-mentored student projects, are welcome. Please share this announcement widely with students and colleagues.

Deadline for presentation proposals is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15. However, further extension can be given if requested in advance by email to cmora@bgsu.edu.

Submit your Symposium on Diversity proposal. Only a presentation title and brief abstract are required for presentation registration and please submit only one registration per presentation.

2. Food assistance support: Grab and go bag and Falcon Care card

The Dean of Students has a couple of ways we can provide support for students who are running out of food at the end of the semester and anytime throughout the year. The Falcon Care card provides a couple of meal swipes in the cafeteria. We also have a program with a grab and go bag to get some food quickly.

Apply for food assistance support online or stop by our office from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday in 303 University Hall and we can connect you to either of these supports. Reach out to odos@bgsu.edu or 419-372-2843 with any questions.

3. ITS service desk winter break hours

The Information Technology Services (ITS) service desk will close at 5 p.m. on weekdays from Dec. 11 – Jan. 5 and will also be closed on weekends and university holidays during this time. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, Jan. 6.

4. BGSU VPN/Pulse Secure upgrade to begin Dec. 14

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, Information Technology Services (ITS) will release an upgrade for the BGSU VPN/Pulse Secure application to update it to a newer version. This upgrade brings the application up to date with BGSU’s latest standards and provides increased network security and compatibility with newer operating systems.

If you are connected to the VPN when the upgrade is released (on or off campus) you will be briefly disconnected. Please wait 2-3 minutes before attempting to reconnect to the network. For the upgrade to be successfully applied, you must be connected to either VPN/Pulse Secure, eduroam or the BGSU wired network. The upgrade will attempt to complete the next time your device is connected to one of these networks after the release at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14.

5. Campus Update - December and holiday schedule

Campus Update will appear on Wednesday only for the two weeks following commencement, Dec. 13 & 20. Campus Update will not be sent during the holiday break, Dec. 25 through Jan. 1, and will return to its usual schedule beginning Wednesday, Jan. 3.

1. Student health insurance requirement

The spring health insurance requirement is due Jan. 1. To see if this applies to you, check your ‘To Dos’ in your MyBGSU. There will be a $1,457 charge to your spring tuition bill as well. To waive or enroll in the spring/summer insurance, go to the Quick Links section on your MyBGSU, select ‘Insurance Requirement’ and fill out the appropriate form. If you have other insurance that meets BGSU requirements and waive prior to the deadline, the $1,457 insurance fee will be cleared from your tuition bill. 1. CFE info session: What the Division of Research can do for you!

Are you interested in learning what BGSU can do for you to advance your scholarly and creative ambitions? Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and the Division of Research for this virtual info session on how the Division of Research can support you and your scholarship. The current Vice President of Research, Ali Eskandarian, and colleagues from across the University will discuss the various resources and opportunities offered by the Division of Research. This info session will include a Q&A session during which you can ask questions and learn first-hand from your colleagues.

2. CFE workshop: Faculty180

Join the Center for Faculty Excellence to learn about Faculty180, the faculty activity reporting system that is used for reappointment, tenure and promotion, as well as merit, accreditation, reporting and other processes. Facilitated by PJ Mays, the assistant dean of Institutional Effectiveness on the Firelands campus, this virtual workshop will show you how to document your achievements in research, teaching and service using the Faculty180 system.

The Faculty180 workshop will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, via Zoom.

3. CFE workshop: Getting Started with Canvas New Quizzes

New Quizzes is Canvas’s new assessment engine that integrates with Canvas and will be replacing Classic Quizzes. New Quizzes offers new features, question types and a new interface. Join the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) for their virtual workshop, Getting Started with Canvas New Quizzes, to learn about this new tool. In this workshop, you will learn how to create questions in an item bank and how to utilize the item bank in a quiz.

Facilitated by Holly Barber, CFE instructional designer, the Getting Started with New Quizzes workshop will be held via Zoom on Jan. 31 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
