Did you know that speaking a second language can help your job search? Communication in the workplace is important and many U.S. companies are in need of bilingual employees. World Languages & Cultures offers instruction in nine languages every academic year. Become a global citizen and expand your WRLD by learning a second language. Start this fall!
If you have a high school background in a world language, don't delay ... language skills get rusty if you don't use them. Take the online Language Placement Test for Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish to see which level you need to get started at.
If you are starting a new language, you may register for the 1010 level WITHOUT the placement test. Already have some COLLEGE credit for a language? You don't need to take the placement test to continue to the next level.

The Student Green Initiatives Fund is a pool of money used to make BGSU more sustainable. Potential projects, from small to huge, are submitted to the committee by applicants. Some past successful ones have included an electric Zamboni for the Ice Arena, electric vehicle charging stations, water bottle filling stations, energy efficient lighting, a composting program and much more. And YOU get to decide which projects get funded if you are a member of the committee! This is a fantastic opportunity for experience in grant application/review, financial management, sustainability management, operations and so many other areas and will provide you with valuable experiences that will enhance your skills for future employment. And of course you also get to participate in the development of sustainability at BGSU and the direction we will head.
Applications for open positions on the committee are currently being accepted, up until the end of the day this Friday, April 8. It's a simple application and you are encouraged to complete and submit it now rather than later. Any major will be considered, but an interest in the environment and sustainability is helpful.
The application can be found here.
More info about the Green Fund can be found here.

Information Session #2: April 7 at 4 p.m. ET
Evidence abounds that deep learning happens through exploration and discovery. Students who engage in experiential learning understand topics more clearly, completely and permanently. An effective way to engage students in discovery-based education is through collaborative learning. In this framework, learning contexts emerge through cooperation between students, groups and instructors. Instead of the instructor presenting material first and then assigning an assessment activity, students engage in an inquisitive activity where they figure a concept out on their own or in groups. They explore the topic and draw their own conclusions. Then the class reflects together to clarify concepts and answer questions.
Workshop learning objectives:
Date: April 8
Time: 1 to 2 p.m.

It is essential that university students understand the expectations for them to maintain academic integrity and to avoid accusations of academic dishonesty. Issues arise when students are either unaware of proper practices like source citation and individual work, or deliberately choose to cheat or plagiarize. Technology and access to the internet have confounded these issues tremendously in recent years. This workshop will provide faculty members the opportunity to share concerns, frustrations, best practices, and to collaboratively ideate solutions to problems associated with cheating and plagiarism.
Workshop learning objectives:
Understand how to use resources that assist in plagiarism detection
Learn best practices to mitigate cheating
Share experiences dealing with academic honesty issues
Collaboratively ideate solutions
Date: April 7
Time: 1:00 to 2 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Facilitator: Dr. Jerry Schnepp
