1. Deadline for Women of Distinction nominations - Thursday!

This event honors outstanding leaders in the BGSU community who serve as role models and/or mentors to individuals who have faced discrimination based on sex and/or gender and exhibit dedication to empowering individuals who have faced discrimination based on sex and/or gender to achieve their goals.

Award recipients may be undergraduate or graduate students, staff members, community/alumni or faculty members of all genders. Submit your nomination at bgsu.edu/wodnominate.

2. MLK Keynote Address – Dr. Mark Lomax II

On Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. Dr. Mark Lomax II will be giving the MLK Keynote Address. Dr. Lomax is a critically acclaimed composer, recording artist, drummer, activist and educator. A highly sought-after lecturer, Lomax specializes in the socio-political and spiritual aspects of African-American art, music, race and using the arts to build community.

The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.

3. Register for spring intramural sports

Registration is open for spring 2022 intramural sports. Get a head start on signing up your teams! Get involved as an individual, with your friends or student organization by playing.

Play begins Jan. 24 in the following sports:
Indoor Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball and Basketball.

Sports beginning on March 14:
Dodgeball, Wiffleball, Flag Football and Kickball.

Cost:
Spring Semester Pass: $30/pp
No cost to players who already purchased an academic year pass.

4. Spring CURS grant application (second round) open

Undergraduate research/scholarly/creative projects of 1-2 students with a faculty mentor in ANY discipline or field are funded with up to $500 toward project costs and a $200 stipend per student. Group projects (3-5 students) can ask for up to $750 with a $200 stipend for each student.

Application deadline is Monday, Jan. 24.

5. Come to the January ReStore event!

Have you been to the ReStore yet? Come pick out school and office supplies, clothes, décor or other items for free! Each item taken is one less item added to landfills, and instead reused or repurposed to help save the planet. You can access our new location across from the Life Science Building through the sliding glass doors of McDonald. Masks and a valid BGSU ID are mandatory for entry. Our next ReStore event is Thursday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hope to see you there!

10. Introduction to Mindfulness workshop starts Jan. 26 – register!

Register for the Introduction to Mindfulness workshop, an ideal class if you have never practiced mindfulness and are looking for a basic overview. During the class you will learn the key concepts of mindfulness and how to develop a practice. All participants receive a free copy of the book “The Mindful Twenty-Something: Life Skills to Handle Stress ... and Everything Else” and a journal. Classes are Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 via Zoom.

More experienced with mindfulness? Our Expanding Your Mindfulness Practice workshop starts March 17.

At CampusFest (spring version) you can learn about student organizations, programs and departments with opportunities for you to get connected! CampusFest is a free event for all students that will take place on Jan. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Lenhart Grand Ballroom in the BTSU. Student attendees will have the opportunity to win prizes by talking to different campus organizations. 4. Need food assistance?

Are you or a student you know facing food insecurity? The Office of the Dean of Students food assistance programs can provide students with support and resources (i.e. a bag of non-perishable grocery items). The ITS Student Support Services team is looking to hire two student staff (approx. 15 hrs./week) to begin working this semester. The application form is open now through 11:59 p.m. on January 22, with interviews taking place shortly after the application closes. Starting pay rate is $12/hour.

CALLING ALL BGSU WOMEN!

Delight's mission is to invite college women into Christ-centered communities that foster vulnerability and transform stories.

We invite all BGSU women to our kick-off event! Join us in 231 of the Maurer Center on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 9:15 p.m.

This organization has weekly meetings that entail stories about how God has transformed the lives of college women. It is free to join, however, there is an optional new Bible study available every semester that focuses on a chapter of the Bible. This semester, we are studying the book of Genesis! Books are optional and will be available to purchase at kick-off for $15.

8. Models, dancers, singers and other talents WANTED

Round 2 of Jabberwock 2022 auditions are here! Jabberwock is an annual showcase of talents and achievement hosted by the ExceptiOnal Epsilon Omicron chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Virtual auditions will still be accepted through Jan. 21!

Models, please include a 30-second video showcasing your walk to a fast and slow song. For in-person auditions, please bring heels!

10. Participants needed: Work/job perceptions and self-reliance

BGSU undergraduate students (age 18+) are being recruited for a study to identify, categorize and understand the opinions of college students regarding their future work/job goals and feelings about self-reliance (BGSU IRB #1834837). Students who complete the Q-grid (Excel file) and questionnaire will receive a $10 Starbucks gift card. The grid and questionnaire will take about 30 minutes to complete.

University Activities Organization is the premiere event planning organization here at BGSU! Our first general member meeting is happening on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 6:30 in University Hall. 1. Graduate Teaching Assistants - Intro to Canvas workshop

The Introduction to Canvas workshop provides experience with Canvas features including: settings, notifications, assignments, discussions, grading, modules and quizzes. This workshop includes a facilitator-led demonstration of Canvas and its features and an open question session. This workshop will be conducted online using Zoom.

1. ACUE Effective Teaching Practices course information Session

BGSU full-time faculty members will have the opportunity to participate in ACUE’s comprehensive course on Effective Teaching Practices. This 25-week course prepares faculty in evidence-based teaching practices proven through independently validated research to improve student achievement and close equity gaps. It will be delivered fully online with a cohort of your colleagues.

There will be two online information sessions via Zoom:

• Information Session #1: Wednesday, Jan. 12, 3 to 4 p.m. ET

• Information Session #2: Friday, Jan. 21, 1 to 2 p.m. ET

2. Assessing Course Design and Delivery virtual workshop

The design elements of an online or remote course can influence both the teaching and learning that occur within the course. In this workshop, participants will reflect on their online and remote course design and delivery, review standards for high quality course design (Quality Matters and BGSU Rubrics), and share best practices for (re)designing an effective, engaging and well-structured online course.

3. Creating Engaging Micro-Learning Videos virtual workshop

BGSU faculty had to quickly transition to remote learning over the past year. While transitioning, many faculty have decided to implement videos within their courses. Often times instructors may find that participation is low in synchronous lectures and are looking to find more efficient ways to engage students in their subject matter. In this workshop, instructors will be able to define what microlearning videos are and the benefits of producing this type of video, discuss the steps and best practices involved in creating microlearning videos, and be able to determine what platform is best to host videos while keeping in mind best practices for accessibility.

4. The Optimal Aging Institute is accepting small grant proposals

The Optimal Aging Institute (OAI) is accepting applications for their small grant awards ($500 to $1,000). Grant funds through the OAI are designed for original scholarship, seed money or pilot data. Applicants may be full-time faculty or graduate-level students with support from a full-time faculty member. The upcoming deadline for submission is Feb. 1.
