November 2020
Greetings from the Schmidthorst College of Business!
The Schmidthorst College of Business is very proud of the faculty, staff and students in successfully managing a challenging fall semester!
The college’s Committee to Advance Teaching and Learning (CATL) prepared faculty to help students succeed in hybrid, remote and online learning. CATL was tasked with crafting and implementing a rapid response plan when the pandemic hit and developed The Ten Core Practices Essential to Distance Learning Experiences recently featured in the AACSB publication BizEd.

We have 95 students graduating in December, and we wish them well as they begin their careers. This is the first group of students who will graduate from the Schmidthorst College of Business in the Robert W. and Patricia A. Maurer Center. For those of you who haven’t visited, here is a student narrated video tour of the Maurer Center.
A group of 13 high-achieving and engaged students were chosen to join the Schmidthorst Student Ambassadors program next fall. I invite you to read more about this impressive new cohort. In honor of his close friend and fraternity brother, Drew Forhan ’81 established the John D. Tortorella Student Ambassador Endowed Fund, the first endowed support for the program. Please let us know if you are interested in sponsoring a student ambassador or contributing to the John D. Tortorella Endowed Fund.
As the holidays approach, our diverse faculty, staff and students are celebrating in many ways. You can also look forward to the upcoming announcement of the 2021 Hatchlings in early December. The upcoming year will bring many more accomplishments and exciting events. Please note on your calendar that Entrepreneurship Week is scheduled for April 19-23. As the new year unfolds, we will keep you updated on happenings in the college.
On behalf of the Schmidthorst College of Business, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Warm Regards,
