Departments Honor Their Top Graduating Seniors
As the academic year drew to a close, Departments recognized the outstanding achievements and academic excellence of our graduating seniors at the Annual Graduating Senior Reception in Spring 2018.
The following are brief summaries of the two seniors who were honored as Finance and Insurance Graduating Seniors of the Year at the Reception.
Department of Finance
Two graduating seniors were honored based on their specializations. They were given their awards by Dr. Sung Bae.
Finance- Joseph Davidson
- Besides specializing in finance, earned a bachelor’s in mathematics, specializing in actuarial science
- Recipient of the BGSU Football Athletic Scholarship and the BGSU Award of Scholars Scholarship
- Member of BGSU Men’s Football team, punter
- Member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars
- Academic All-American, College Sports Information Directors of America
- All-Academic 1st Team Mid-American Conference
- A Distinguished Scholar Athlete
- Member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society
- Accounting assistant for BGSU Controller’s Office
Insurance-Erich Wolfrum
- In addition to insurance, specialized in finance
- Member of BGSU’s Gamma Iota Sigma, an educational organization and is the only international business fraternity for students of insurance, risk management and actuarial science
- Interned at Hylant as a healthcare practice intern
- Worked for First Insurance Group
Department of Management
There were three seniors honored according to their specializations.
Management – Sarah Walter
- Also specialized in international business
- 2017 Hatchling – Pitched an idea about a new form of dispensing prescription medicines
- Recipient of the John and Lucy Hartley Memorial Scholarship recipient, the Department of Management Award, and the Chan and Young Hahn Freshman Scholarship
- Member of the State University Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success
- Member of the BGSU University Chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars
- Sales Support Representative for SmartSolve Industries
- Owned and operated a small lawn care company
International Business - Caroline Anne Flaesgarten

- Earned dual degree - Bachelor of Arts in European Management from the University of Strasbourg, France, while studying abroad
- Concentration in European management, economics, and French
- Educational Abroad Ambassador for BGSU
- Fluent in speaking French
- Supplemental Instruction Leader for Introduction to Macroeconomics
- Director of Recruitment for Global Management Leadership Society
- Member of Delta Sigma Pi, Professional Business Fraternity
- Chan and Young Hahn Scholarship recipient
- BGSU Award of Scholars Scholarship
- Human Resources Intern with OhioGuidestone
Supply Chain Management – Julie Kessler
- Also specialized in management and international business
- Earned dual Bachelor of Arts in European Management from the University of Strasbourg, France, while studying abroad

- College of Business Peer Leader
- Member of Dean’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion (DACODI)
- Tutor for Management 3000 in BGSU Learning Commons
- 2018 Karl Vogt Outstanding Senior Award
- Participated in two internships - Owens Corning (supply chain) and Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity in Volunteer Management
Department of Marketing
Here are the two seniors honored according to their specializations. They are also members of the Honors College.
Sales and Services Marketing – Collin Newton
- Also specialized in Business Analytics & Intelligence
- College of Business Student Ambassador (Executive)
- 2016 Hatchling – teamed up with a fellow business student on a wallet phone case and received support from Falcon Investors; Summer 2016 – incubated business idea with Balance, Inc.
- 2017 Runner-Up for BGSU Sales Competition
- Placed 3rd out of 184 in American Marketing Association National Sales Competition (best finish in BGSU history)
- Placed 3rd out of 130 students in the inaugural Gartner National Sales Competition
- Office of Residence Life Academic Peer Mentor
- Founded Run Happy Society, an inclusive organization for individuals who want to improve their social, mental, and physical health
- Co-founded Sales Leaders & Consultants, a division of the student chapter of the American Marketing Association
- Studied abroad in Australia
- 2018 Karl Vogt Outstanding Senior Award
- Interned for Marathon Petroleum
Marketing – Derwin Pritchett II
- Honors College Student Ambassador
- Selected for prestigious Ohio Export Internship Program at The Ohio State University; 2017 cohort graduation speaker
- Winner of 2016 BGSU Sales Competition
- Placed 10th out of 144 individual competitors at the 2017 National Collegiate Sales Competition.
- Member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars
- Member of the American Marketing Association
- 2018 Karl Vogt Outstanding Senior Award
- Participated in 3 internships: 3M, Marathon Petroleum Company, and Bionix Medical Technologies
