Alumnus Art Curtis ’71, ’73 honored by The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association
With more than 30 years of executive experience leading several major club and spa companies, BGSU alumnus Art Curtis ’71, ‘73 was presented the 2018 Dale S. Dibble Distinguished Service Award by The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). This award recognizes an individual within the association who has excelled in their contributions to the industry and IHRSA.
Curtis (pictured left with IHRSA CEO Joe Moore) formed CurtisClubAdvisors, LLC in 2011 to serve the global club industry by providing advisory services that help companies grow and improve profitability. In addition, the BGSU graduate has served as a CEO and COO of several leading health club companies, including Millennium Partners Sports Club Management, Wellbridge, and the Columbia Association.
Curtis also has served as an alumni mentor for BGSU’s The Hatch® program through the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Graduating from BGSU with an undergraduate business degree in pre-law and a master’s in exercise physiology, Curtis earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Maryland. Interestingly, this is not the first distinguished service award for Curtis. He was one of several recipients graduating in 1971 to receive the "Distinguished Service Award" from then University President Hollis Moore for service to BGSU.
The alumnus praised the opportunities he was given while at BGSU. “One of the things that I have always been proud of about my experience at BGSU was that I was given great opportunities to succeed in both the classroom and on the athletic field. To that end I was a 2nd Team All-MAC selection in football, an All-Midwest selection in Lacrosse and a co-captain of the lacrosse team."
