Domestic Student Health Insurance

At Bowling Green State University, we require our students to have health insurance. Domestic students taking eight (8) or more credit hours, per semester, on the main Bowling Green, Ohio campus, are required to enroll in the BGSU student health insurance plan, unless they have an alternative insurance plan that meets BGSU minimum essential coverage requirements.

Waive the Plan

If you are already covered by adequate health insurance, and you do not wish to purchase/enroll in the University plan:

  • Confirm your plan covers inpatient and outpatient medical and mental health in Northwest Ohio.
  • Confirm coverage is currently active and you agree to maintain health coverage throughout the entire academic year.

If you can say yes to the above, please follow one of the two process below, based on your age, to waive the coverage:

  • Log in to MyBGSU
  • Select the "Quick Links" tab at the top right corner of the page.
  • Select "Student Insurance Requirement" from the menu.
  • Once you are on the page, follow the steps to waive your coverage.
  • Once you have successfully waived the coverage, you will receive a confirmation page. Print and save this page for your records.

This is the process you need to follow if you (the student) are under 18 today, regardless if you are going to turn 18 before the beginning of the semester.

  • Fill out the Under 18 Waiver Form before the deadline
  • Follow the steps to waive your coverage.
  • Once you have successfully waived the coverage, you will receive a confirmation page. Print and save this page for your records.
