Supervisor Skills Series
The Office of Human Resources’ Training and Development Department offers employees supervisor development opportunities which are aimed to enlighten, enrich and educate any currently supervising staff or faculty, as well as, those that may be interested in pursuing a supervising position. These supervisory development opportunities are implemented in a variety of ways including, instructor led, computer-based, or blended training programs to support the mission and core values of the University. These trainings include, but are not limited to the following:
Supervisory Skills 101 | Basics of Supervision
This initial course offers the basic overview of roles and responsibilities of being an effective supervisor at Bowling Green State University. Upon completion of this course, staff and faculty will be equipped to understand their role as a supervisor, learn best practices for delegating, communicating and supervising effectively, identify key characteristics and behaviors of effective and influential supervisors, as well as, how to invest in personal and professional development for themselves and their staff members.

Supervisory Skills 102 | Developing New and Existing Employees
This second course in the Supervisory series outlines how to effectively supervisor employees who were once peers. Upon completion of this training, staff and faculty will have the skills to effectively navigate the transition from employee to supervisor, how to inspire their team, how to outline their authority without being abrasive or aggressive, how to establish intentional interactions with their staff and how to manage conflict during the transition from peer to supervisor.

Supervisory Skills 103 | Performance Management
This third course in the Supervisory series outlines the variety of resources available to supervisors, as well as, the various policies and procedures within the university culture. Upon completion of this course, staff and faculty will be able to identify the various departments within the university community that can provide assistance in a variety of situations, understand performance appraisals, understand coaching and training opportunities with their staff, as well as, understand and be aware of the New Manager’s Toolkit located on the OHR website.
