Learn through hands-on experiences in engaging and active classes
Our school emphasizes rigorous, hands-on experiences in our labs, studio spaces and active learning classrooms. School of Applied Human Development graduates enter in-demand careers with excellent technical knowledge and the strong, practical skills valued by employers. Some choose to continue their education and are admitted into competitive graduate programs, such as counseling, physical therapy and athletic training.
- Practice skills in service-learning activities, clinical labs, cooperative learning projects and studios like the Richard A. Maxwell Sport Media Project
- Gain professional experience through co-ops, practicums and internships built into the curriculum that often lead to jobs.

- Immerse yourself in your field by volunteering at the Super Bowl™, traveling to NYC or Chicago for fashion and furniture expos, or spending a year at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
- Study abroad on faculty-led trips to places like Italy and London.

Our faculty members are strong mentors invested in your success. They are active researchers who partner with both undergraduate and graduate students. Students have the opportunity to publish their research, travel to conferences and collaborate with peers and our expert faculty. Undergraduate students are also eligible for research funding from the Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarships.
School of Applied Human Development faculty and students contribute to their fields and impact countless lives by researching a wide range of topics including:
