Student Care and Support

Student Care and Support

Student Care and Support Staff can offer students resources and support related to acdemic concerns, mental/physical health, extended class absences, food/housing/finacial insecurity, concerns with peers, faculty and staff, as well as campus climate concerns.

Mission:

The Student Care and Support area within the Office of the Dean of Students promotes student success by providing individualized support and advocacy for BGSU students experiencing a personal hardship or crisis. We identify needs, connect students to resources, and encourage self-efficacy.  We help establish realistic expectations and strive to achieve appropriate outcomes for students experiencing difficult life circumstances. Our area serves as a resource center and collaborator for students, families, and BGSU community members.

Vision:

The Student Care and Support area within the Office of Dean of Students strives to promote student learning, success and well-being through programs and resources. In times of crisis and challenging experiences for students, through trauma informed practices, our area works to promote student retention, persistence, and help them find ways forward. The area aspires to help students actively learn about themselves and their needs as well as foster an environment where students feel respected and supported. Staff members work to empower students to develop skills and make decisions that support their holistic well-being through effective non-clinical case management.
