International Business
International Business
By choosing this specialization, you will learn how to effectively manage and communicate across international borders; these are skills top employers look for in new employees. You will gain knowledge on cultural differences and their impact in the global business area, developing skills that are critical to evaluate market entry strategies and alternatives in different countries.
International Business offers nationally recognized chapters of professional student organizations, a large base of scholarship support, and a tradition of success. The college maintains close ties with both regional and national businesses, expanding job opportunities for students as they graduate from the program (and often even before they graduate). The college is accredited by AACSB, a credential that only the top 2 percent of colleges and universities worldwide achieve.

Here’s what our students say about the International Business specialization:
Student Blogs:
"The international business specialization offers students a great value with its flexibility, great professors, interesting and globally oriented courses as well as amazing opportunities to study abroad. I was fortunate enough to spend the summer studying international marketing, intercultural management and the European business environment at Audencia School of Management in Nantes, France. This specialization has really pushed me toward being a global citizen and given me such a competitive advantage to market myself in today’s global business environment." -Erica C Nieminen
"I spent an interesting summer semester in Spain, which gave me a better understanding of the concepts we were learning in class. Once I began searching for my first job, I found that my specialization and international experience were very attractive bullet points on my resume. I am now a financial analyst for the Global Financial Planning & Analysis team at Avery Dennison, a global Fortune 500 company. I use the skills I learned on a daily basis, whether dealing with my international counterparts in Asia and South America, analyzing business trends in all regions of our division or focusing on global strategies." -Vince Provenzale
Summer trip to China
As an extension of the program, Dr. Man Zhang, associate professor, offers a summer education abroad program in China each year for BGSU students. The 2019 program is scheduled for mid-May to mid-June. This is a great opportunity to learn more about both business and culture while earning BGSU credits in a short timeframe outside of fall and spring semester commitments. Space is limited; contact Dr. Zhang today at mzhang@bgsu.edu to learn more.
“I was very nervous to go to China because I had never travelled internationally before, but everyone made me feel at ease. Looking back, I’m amazed that I was able to learn how to negotiate with shop-keepers on the prices of product I wanted to buy! Being with others in this program made this experience so much more rewarding because we were all faced with the task of learning about a new environment together.” -Summer McVick, 2017
“Our guest speakers helped us a lot with our business projects. They helped me learn that the way I was approaching the Chinese market was slightly off, and that I had to rearrange my whole paper. But, as they helped me understand, I’d rather put in the extra work and be right.” -Garrett Frye, 2017
“Overall, the trip was a very interesting experience that everyone needs to have at least once in their lives, considering how much of an impact something like the Silk Road had globally.” -Alexis Allen, 2017
