Economics
In the Department of Economics, students can earn a Bachelor of Science in Economics or they can minor in economics. A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in economics is also available in conjunction with BGSU’s College of Arts and Sciences.
At the graduate level, students can earn a Master of Arts in Financial Economics which is known for its rigorous curriculum in macro- and micro-economic theory, econometrics, and financial analysis. We also have an accelerated program for undergraduates interested in finishing their graduate degree early.
Our department is proud of its faculty! We've had Distinguished Teaching Professors and a Master Teacher as well as experts in the field of economics. The department hosts conferences and colloquia each year that bring renowned economists to campus and we host an undergraduate student paper contest and conference.
Amanda Cook wins the 2022 Faculty Excellence Award in Research
The Leadership Council, an advisory board for the Schmidthorst College of Business, comprised of prominent alumni and friends, recognized Dr. Amanda Cook as the recipient of the 2022 Faculty Excellence Award in Research. The title of the award is Faculty Excellence in Intellectual Contributions with Positive Societal Impact Award and comes with a plaque and an award of $5,000. The award was based on five indicators of excellence in scholarly activities that have positive societal impact, which included publications and quality, impact of intellectual contributions on society, scholarly impact, grants with positive societal impact, and impact of research on social policies, legislation, and business processes.

The BGSU Department of Economics hosted its 19th annual Undergraduate Economics Student Paper Contest and Conference on April 13.
