WHO IS MY ADVISOR?
The College of Arts & Sciences offers advising services through both faculty mentors and academic advisors. To find your assigned advisors, log onto MyBGSU, click on "My Advisor" under "Student Services".
WHY DOES THE COLLEGE HAVE BOTH FACULTY AND COLLEGE ADVISORS?
Faculty mentors and academic advisors perform overlapping, but slightly different roles. Your academic advisor in the college office will be your primary contact during your first and second year. But you are strongly encouraged to introduce yourself to your faculty mentor during your first semester so you can start to build rapport with them as they will be your primary contact during your junior and senior years. Both academic advisors and faculty mentors can explain Undergraduate Catalog policies, the College of Arts & Sciences Student Handbook, Degree Audit Report (DARS), and help you understand university, degree, major, minor, specialization, and focus requirements. Faculty mentors will provide professional insight relevant to the student's career objectives within the discipline and suggest appropriate course alternatives or experiential learning opportunities. Academic advisors can also provide general information about your discipline and conduct your Transition Review as you near 60 hours to make sure you are on track before changing to your Faculty Mentor during junior and senior years.
HOW SOON WILL MY ADVISOR BE ASSIGNED?
Your academic advisor and faculty mentor names and contact information will be listed in your MyBGSU portal within two weeks of your Student Orientation date at BGSU. If you have questions or concerns prior to that time, you may contact the college office in 205 Administration Building at 419.372.2015. You can view a list of faculty mentors for college majors and minors here. Academic advisors in the Student Services office are listed below.
