Public Relations
The public relations program at BGSU helps students develop the expertise and skills for a career in the dynamic and ever-changing field of public relations. Our students earn a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a specialization in Public Relations where they learn to write for print, audio, visual and social media. A minor in public relations is also available.

Students benefit from a combination of foundational course work and close ties to experienced and knowledgeable faculty members. They also gain real-life experiences in capstone courses and in the two required internships.
The public relations program is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).
Career - what can you do with a public relations degree?
Public relations students put their public relations skills to practice in courses and through the required two internships that guarantee significant practical experience. Internships are available at local businesses and on campus through Falcon Media, the student media organization. Our graduates have gone on to work at Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, American Red Cross, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Columbus Zoo, Dayton Children’s Hospital, University of Michigan, Google, etc.

Curriculum
Students in the public relations program learn the skills necessary to help manage communication between an organization and its publics. Students learn and refine the basic skills of writing and presenting, as well as the principles and processes behind effective communications management.

The Public Relations program is part of the School of Media and Communication in the BGSU College of Arts and Sciences.
Accreditation
The Public Relations program is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and is in good standing. Only about 25 percent of programs across the country are accredited.
Bowling Green State University [BGSU] is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. BGSU has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 01/01/1916. The most recent reaffirmation of accreditation was received in 2022-2023, with our next reaffirmation of accreditation scheduled for 2032-2033.
