HURON, Ohio – After a competitive national search, Bowling Green State University has selected Dr. Allia L. Carter as the next dean of BGSU Firelands.
Currently, Carter serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Virginia Union University, which has experienced significant gains in student enrollment, retention and persistence under her leadership. Carter is a BGSU alumna, holding a doctorate in higher education administration with a concentration in educational administration and supervision.
"We look forward to welcoming Dr. Allia L. Carter as dean of BGSU Firelands," said Dr. Joe B. Whitehead Jr., provost and senior vice president at BGSU. "Dr. Carter has a wealth of knowledge and experience in driving higher education forward. As dean, Carter will work with BGSU Firelands faculty, staff and students to ensure the Huron campus continues to offer learners of all ages accessible, relevant academic programs that meet workforce needs in the region and beyond.
Along with bolstering the academic mission of BGSU Firelands, Carter will also collaborate with regional economic and government leadership to forge innovative partnerships that embrace Huron campus resources to drive student success, entrepreneurial programs, workforce development and skilled training for local industries.
Carter is set to join BGSU Firelands in June and will succeed Dr. Ram Veerapaneni, who served as interim dean. Veerapaneni has been selected for a new role as interim vice provost for academic affairs in the Office of the Provost at BGSU.
