BGSU student entrepreneurs to pitch their products, ideas to investors during The Hatch
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Entrepreneurship Week (E-Week) is in full swing at the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business at Bowling Green State University, and one of the most anticipated events of the week – The Hatch – is set to take place at 6 p.m. today, April 13, in the state-of-the-art Robert W. and Patricia A. Maurer Center on the BGSU campus. The annual event follows a format similar to the hit ABC show "Shark Tank."
The Hatch is a semester-long program that takes student business ideas from concept to the stage. This year's Hatchlings represent a variety of colleges across the University.
During the event, a select number of Hatchlings will pitch their business ideas and products in front of a live audience to see if investors will help their ideas soar to new heights.
This year's Hatchlings have some creative ideas in the works including:
- An alternative standardized test to the ACT or SAT based on the way a student learns best
- A nonprofit organization developed to promote social good, education and prevention of medical debt through America's pastime – baseball
- A food selection app that considers how you're currently feeling and produces a restaurant or recipe that will satisfy your hunger and provide food for your mood
- A vending machine filled with hard-to-find, minority haircare products, placed on college campuses to increase access and availability
Members of the public are invited to watch The Hatch via a livestream to see the energy and creativity of the University’s entrepreneurs firsthand.
The Hatch is part of E-Week at BGSU and is aimed at engaging students in creative and innovative problem-solving for the public good by tackling complex problems presented in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Students work individually or in teams to explore their ideas toward creating a positive social impact for our community.
