BGSU to welcome jazz musician Lou Marini Jr. as part of the Hansen Musical Arts Series

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As part of the Hansen Musical Arts Series, Bowling Green State University will welcome jazz musician Lou Marini Jr. for a performance with the BGSU Wind Symphony and Jazz Lab I at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Kobacker Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

A platinum recording artist, Marini Jr. is an adept multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, educator and producer with ties to BGSU. His father, Lou Marini Sr., was a professor of saxophone and arranging in the BGSU College of Musical Arts from 1964-'75. In addition to teaching woodwinds, arranging and conducting the jazz band, Marini Sr. wrote more than 180 arrangements for the Falcon Marching Band. In 2003, BGSU recognized his many contributions by naming him Outstanding Professor and holding the homecoming ceremonies in his honor. 

The New York-based Marini Jr. is famed for his adaptability and ability to imagine and perform inventive ideas in jazz, rock, blues and classical music. He is accomplished on soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxes, as well as piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute and clarinet.

Marini Jr. is best known as a member of several distinguished bands, including Woody Herman Orchestra, Doc Severinson, Blood, Sweat and Tears, The Band, Dr. John, Frank Zappa, Saturday Night Live (SNL) Band, The Blues Brothers, BlueBeck with Joe Beck, Eric Clapton and many others. He has toured four times each with James Taylorʼs Band of Legends and the John Tropea Band.
