BGSU Firelands, Family Health Services of Erie County partner to offer health support services on campus

HURON, Ohio — Prioritizing the health and well-being of the learning community, Bowling Green State University Firelands is partnering with Family Health Services of Erie County to increase access to mental health care and support services on campus with the opening an office in George Mylander Hall.

The office's opening on the Huron campus highlights the University's commitment to supporting learning community members during their academic and personal journeys. Appointments can be made through the BGSU Firelands wellness website.

The new Family Health Services office situated on the first floor of George Mylander Hall will serve as a starting point for individuals seeking mental health assistance, providing one-on-one mental health counseling services at BGSU Firelands with access to a comprehensive range of services at other locations.

"As part of our commitment to providing an environment that supports student success, BGSU Firelands is delighted to welcome Family Health Services to our campus," BGSU Firelands Interim Dean Ram Veerapaneni said. "We have a responsibility to both our students and the community as a public university for the public good. This partnership complements our involvement in educating future healthcare professionals by creating a community where everyone can flourish." 

Family Health Services has garnered a reputation in the region for offering a well-rounded approach to care that addresses both physical and mental well-being. Through education, support and quality services, Family Health Services aims to foster healthier lifestyles while ensuring that everyone can thrive.

“Family Health Services is committed to providing high-quality care without barriers to our communities,” said Renee Leber, clinical director of Behavioral Health at Family Health Services. “It's a privilege to work alongside BGSU Firelands to be able to provide holistic patient care addressing physical, mental/emotional, dental, food insecurities and transportation needs. Having a licensed therapist on campus allows quick access to mental health care, cutting down on transportation barriers and time needed to be away from work or schooling.”

Overall, the collaboration enhances health and well-being resources at BGSU Firelands while reinforcing the importance of mental health and holistic care in academic and personal success.
