Cultural Exchange through Arts Education Program
An Educational program to introduce basic art fundamentals and Latino culture through art projects to disadvantage artistic
youths in the Toledo area. BGSU faculty and students will act as art instructors and mentors. This program will further develop knowledge of the arts, artistic skills and creativity for disadvantaged youths.

Early Literacy Partnership
Faculty and students within Early Childhood Education (ECE) at Firelands, will develop a literacy partnership with Norwalk
Catholic Schools. Through this proposal, staff and parents at Norwalk Catholic Schools will be provided with on-going professional literacy
development to be modeled and shared with Firelands’ students, in creating and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons
and to ultimately create a premier learning environment within their facility.

Eastwood High School Math Peer-Tutoring Initiative (EHS MPTI)
Eastwood High School (EHS) and BGSU’s Math and Stats Tutoring (MAST) Center will collaborate to establish a math peer-tutoring
program at EHS modeled after the university’s program. The project affords high school students opportunity to improve math achievement by utilizing the MAST staff’s expertise in
running a successful center

Education to Reduce Risky Behaviors in Youth
The project is assembled to present a wide range of information to youth in order to help define and identify risky behavior
as well as the consequences of those behaviors. With an understanding of risky behavior, youth will be able to make informed decisions and choices to reduce their risk.

Foundations on Ice
“Foundations on Ice” is an outreach program of the BGSU Ice Arena designed to build leadership and self-esteem through the
instruction of ice skating skills. Curriculum features include 6 hours of ice time, off-ice workshops in choreography and leadership, and an exhibition as the
culminating experience.

Healthy Lifestyles Project
The Healthy Lifestyles Project is designed to promote health goals for individuals with serious mental illness who are members
at the Connection Center in Bowling Green. The project will consist of education sessions, potluck dinners, a walking program, and a ‘library’ of health resources to
be housed at the Center.

La Petite Ecole
Based on the collaboration between BGSU French House and the BG Christian Academy, residents of the House will teach French
to groups of elementary/junior-high students in an after-school program. The success of this initial program will lead to a cooperation with other schools in BG.

Sexuality, Medication, and HIV/AIDS, and the Older Adult
Because individuals age fifty and over now comprise the fastest growing age group of HIV+ individuals, the need for HIV/AIDS
prevention/education programs is evident. The challenge is to design and determine which programs and educational campaigns would be the most effective. The proposed project will address and meet this challenge.

Summer Program for Enhancing Language and Literacy (SPELL)
The BGSU Department of Communication Disorders (CDIS) in partnership with Findlay City Schools (FCS) is proposing a summer
program to promote language and literacy skills in at-risk first-grade children from FCS. Participants will receive intervention from a speech-language pathologist in the CDIS Department as well as graduate students
in training.

Transgender Education and Media Project (TEMP)
Transcendence and Transgender Toledo, aim to further education about transgender issues in Northwest Ohio. To accomplish this goal, TEMP will establish a Speaker’s Bureau and produce an educational video on transgender people. Our hope is to increase acceptance of a vastly misunderstood and underserved population.

WCHID-BGSU Partnership to Address Community Concerns About Factory Farms
The Wood County Health Department (WCHD) is partnering with students, faculty, and staff at BGSU to monitor the quality of

We will be working on a project to collect oral histories of Perrysburg Heights Community, help community members build a
website and assist them in designing and creating a mural for the community center. The project will involve graduate students
and undergraduate students in service learning projects with Perrysburg Heights community.

Cheer-Leading Away from Dating Violence

Elder Abuse Conference
Elder abuse is a devastating experience for many seniors in our community. It occurs in domestic and institutional settings daily. The project is a regional conference on elder abuse that will raise
awareness, promote prevention, provide investigation and prosecution training and promote linkages across systems to deal
with elder abuse.

Environmental Education Project
This project will provide grades K-12 students in Erie County education on recycling, waste reduction, and environmental awareness
through a poster contest, activity boxes, and electronic “Jeopardy” games. Students gain knowledge of how to save natural
resources, contribute to their communities in a positive way, and realize how their actions affect the Earth.

A Group Intervention Program for Families of Children with Developmental Disabilities
Research has shown that caring for children with developmental disabilities is associated with higher levels of parental stress.
While many intervention programs exist for children with developmental disabilities, there are no intensive intervention programs
for parents and families of children with developmental disabilities in Sandusky County. The proposed project consists of
two interventions aimed to decrease familial stress associated with caring for children with developmental disabilities.

Parent/Professional Empowerment Project
The Parent/Professional Empowerment project is a partnership between Bowling Green State University School of Intervention
Services and Lucas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities to provide a forum to train parents of
children with disabilities together and preservice students on methods of effective parent/professional partnerships and empowerment.

Project Healthy Choices
This project will allow BGSU social work students to work with pre-adolescents to develop skills in problem solving, conflict

Two Bridges Community Literacy Project
English departments at Waite High School & East Toledo Junior High School will collaborate with senior citizens to develop
a cross-generational literary magazine. We also hope to generate short digital video stories of the lives of the senior citizens.

Utilizing Collaborative Problem-Solving to Increase the Educational Success of Youth Who Have Mental Illness
A faculty member/graduate student in Intervention Services will join a teacher and mental health professional and a parent
to attend a week-long training on the “Collaborative Problem-Solving” model. Those attending will serve as the lead team to train an additional five local school teams that will be assigned to elementary
schools to implement the CPS model. The school teams will work with staff that has a student who has a mental health diagnosis and is in need of an alternative
style of instruction for success. The student’s family will also be included in the local school training to ensure consistency from the school environment
to the home environment

Vernal Pool Adventures!
Vernal Pool Adventures introduces Bowling Green State University students and the general public of the metro-Toledo area
to the life that exists both in and around temporary wetland pools. Using simple monitoring equipment and field guides, volunteers
for this program contribute to the knowledge of biodiversity in northwest Ohio and to useful information that can be used
in land management decisions.

be explored, critiqued and reviewed during an artist-in-residence series.

First Steps: A Children’s Dance Experience
Working in eight kindergarten classrooms of three Toledo Public Schools, BGSU dance education students will assist Toledo
Ballet instructors and document the curriculum utilized in the Toledo Ballet’s First Steps program. The finished curriculum
will comprise 10 lesson plans integrating dance and music with lessons from required academic curriculum.

Improving Literacy Through Service Learning
This is a service-learning project. Students from East Toledo Junior High school, in collaboration with BGSU teacher education
students, will create children’s’ books, read and present them to senior citizens from Wright Harvey House, an assisted living
facility. The East Toledo students will write and illustrate their own children’s books; BGSU/PCC students will help develop
the books while receiving valuable field experience. The completed books will then be read to the assisted-living patients
and each patient will be given a copy of a book written by junior high students.

Learning to Play Again: A Leisure Wellness Project for Recovering Addicts
BGSU faculty member Julie Lengfelder along with practicum and intern students from the Recreation and Tourism Program in the
School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies are collaborating with Shannon Phillips, therapeutic recreation specialist,
and her staff on a new recovery program beginning Fall 2005 at Focus Health Care (Focus) in Maumee, Ohio. Focus is the only residential treatment facility for drug and alcohol addiction in Lucas County. The joint project will offer patients leisure awareness workshops and leisure education in order to lead a more vibrant sober
life.

Linking Horticulture, Environmental Stewardship, and Art
Youngsters who attend the Friendly Center’s and Salem Lutheran Church’s summer programs and neighborhood adults (primarily
residents of Northgate Apartments—seniors and younger adults with disabilities)—will work together on a community garden (on
the Church property), and participate in educational programming provided by Toledo GROWs (an outreach program of Toledo Botanical
Garden) on gardening, nutrition, culinary arts, and environmental stewardship. A summer art program for participants will
emphasize art activities linked to the garden project and neighborhood environment, and art programming for both the youngsters
and adults will continue in the fall.

Celebrating Diversity of all Youth introduces a new element into the existing relationship between Genesis and BGSU Social
Work Department by matching BG students with high-risk juveniles, not only to provide a positive relationship, but also to
help to create works of art celebrating the diversity of all youth.

Abused, neglected, and dependent children: Inspiring community awareness and volunteerism through art
The goal of the proposed project is to increase awareness of the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program and the abused,
neglected and dependent children it serves. To this end, and to recruit donors to the program and volunteers to work with these children, CASA-inspired artworks produced
by BGSU students will be displayed throughout the community.

Family Friends
This partnership will provide family mentoring to enhance aftercare services to homeless families exiting Family House. Only those families exiting to private landlords or housing without assigned case management staff will be followed. Mentoring of families will be done by Social Work students in conjunction with case management staff of Family House.

The Firelands Learning Center
The Firelands Learning Zone is a partnership between the Early Childhood Program at Bowling Green State University Firelands
and the Norwalk Salvation Army. Firelands students will work with children who participate in an after-school program sponsored by the Salvation Army that
encourages children to spend time learning, studying, and having fun.

Intensive Attendance Intervention Program
This project will identify 26 at-risk students having chronic student tardiness at Waite High School. The focus will be on freshman students. The intent is to diagnose, prescribe and case manage identified students in the education of personal, family and community
