‘Fruitvale Station’ screening to include question and answer session with mother of victim
In 2009, Oscar Grant was shot and killed by a transit cop in a BART station in Oakland, Calif. Videos of the incident were posted online and protests and riots followed the shooting and involuntary manslaughter verdict.
Rev. Wanda Johnson, the mother of Grant, will visit campus tomorrow (Feb. 24) as part of a screening of the film “Fruitvale Station,” which focuses on Grant’s interactions with family and friends the day before he died.
The screening starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Gish Film Theater and will be followed by a question and answer session with Johnson.
The event is sponsored by the Chapman Learning Community.
Law Society hosts BGSU alumna
BGSU alumna Tami Harmon, Esq., will speak at tomorrow’s (Feb. 24) meeting of the BGSU Law Society. The 2004 graduate will speak from 5:30-7 p.m. in 115 Business Administration Building.
Following graduation from BGSU, Harmon spent a year educating inner city students as part of AmeriCorps. She earned a Master of Urban Education degree from Cleveland State University, then went on to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer.
She graduated from University of Toledo College of Law in 2012 and opened her own practice in Toledo that focuses on family law and criminal defense. During her presentation she will share her experiences as a young professional and discuss her path to opening a solo law practice.
The event is open to the BGSU community.
