Bowling Green State University
A Message from the President
The University community celebrated another successful Entrepreneurship Week April 3-8. Since the fall, 11 students have been working with faculty, staff and industry experts to prepare their business ideas to pitch to five alumni investors at The Hatch. Also during that week, the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship brought together students, faculty, members of the business community, staff, alumni and friends to learn and discuss innovative practices in business.

Following national searches, Dawn Shinew, Ph.D., has been selected as dean of the College of Education and Human Development and Thomas Gibson, Ed.D., has been named vice president for student affairs and vice provost. I look forward to working with them to better BGSU!

Congratulations to faculty member Lisa Hanasono, Ph.D., recipient of the 2016 David Hoch Memorial Award for Excellence in Service, and undergraduate student Emily Hillyer, recipient of the 2016 Charles J. Ping Student Service Award, both from Ohio Campus Conpact. Sophomore Meg Burrell, the undergraduate representative to the Board of Trustees, was named a 2016 national Campus Conpact Newman Civic Fellow for her work with voting advocacy.

April is a month for recognizing those who have made an impact on our students and the educational experience we provide. Congratulations to our professors of excellence and award winners along with the staff who have been honored!

BGSU is hosting Women in Philanthropy on Saturday, May 14, in partnership with the University of Findlay and Otterbein University. The final of three programs, this event is designed to increase dialogue and discussion related to the multiple roles women play in philanthropy.

On Tuesday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. EST, I will participate in a phone call with alumni and friends and will provide a University update and answer questions. Join me for this special conversation!

Register to attend the inaugural Alumni Summer College June 29-July 1. These events are designed to offer special programming for all alumni and friends. The Golden Falcons, alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago, will also be honored that week.

I'm looking forward to Homecoming events, starting September 30! BGSU will be celebrating 50 years of the Doyt L. Perry Stadium. Event details will be available this summer.

Next weekend, I get to share a special occasion with hundreds of BGSU students - Commencement. I look forward to sharing information about our speakers and student success stories and highlighting some "Falcon Moments" from our graduates.

Regards,

Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D.
