Lot 7 at union to open Aug. 15

The new parking lot west of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Lot 7, will open Monday, Aug. 15. The lot is divided into four sections: A, B, C and D.

Section A is reserved for Admissions guests. An Admissions permit is required from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Between 4 and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, this section will become a pay lot.

Sections B, C and D are visitor lots. Guests must pay at the kiosk available in each section and display the receipt on their dashboard.

No payments are required in Lot 7 on Saturdays or Sundays or after 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

BGBookBag series fall schedule announced

The BGBookBag Professional Development Book Club continues in September with “Difficult Conversations,” by Douglas Stone. Meetings will be held Sept. 8 and Sept. 22, location to be announced. Watch Zoom News and Campus Update for more information.

The fall book discussions will be held virtually, from noon-1 p.m.  The schedule is:

  • October 6 and Oct. 20: “Big Magic,” by Elizabeth Gilbert
  • Nov. 3 and Nov. 17: “Get Smart: How to Think and Act Like the Most Successful . . .” by Brian Tracy
  • Dec. 1 and Dec. 15: “Learning Leadership: The Five Fundamentals,” by James Kouzes

The book club is open to all BGSU employees.

Avoid 'The 10 Common Communication Mistakes'

Learn to avoid “The 10 Common Communication Mistakes” at a virtual training Monday, Aug. 15. The free, one-hour session will begin at 2 p.m. and is open to all BGSU employees.

Auditions underway for University Choral Society

The College of Musical Arts is holding open auditions for the 2016-17 season of the University Choral Society. Highlights of the season include performances of Handel’s “Messiah” and Johann Sebastian Bach’s “St. John Passion.”

The chorus rehearses 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Moore Musical Arts Center, with the first rehearsal scheduled for Aug. 30. Membership consists of BGSU students and community members from the greater Bowling Green area. The ensemble will perform Handel’s “Messiah” with soloists and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 4 as part of the symphony’s regular season at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. During the spring semester, the University Choral Society will perform J.S. Bach’s landmark masterpiece “St. John Passion” with tenor Christopher Scholl as Evangelist, a variety of soloists, and the BGSU Early Music Ensemble. “St. John Passion” will be performed at Toledo’s Hope Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday, April 9, and at Bowling Green’s First United Methodist Church on Good Friday, April 14.

Mark Munson, director of choral activities at BGSU, serves as the director of the University Choral Society. During his tenure he has led the Collegiate Chorale, A Cappella Choir and University Women’s Chorus. He is president-elect of the Central Division of the American Choral Directors Association and a past president of the Ohio Choral Directors Association.
