‘Middletown’ looks at world through small-town lens

“Middletown” by Will Eno and directed by Dr. Jonathan Chambers, theatre and film, opens at 8 p.m. tonight (Feb. 18) in the Eva Marie Saint Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts. The production is a deeply moving and funny exploration of the universe of a small American town.

According to Chambers, the play follows the lives of two residents of the fictional Middletown – John Dodge and Mary Swanson – offering glimpses of their interactions with each other and with others who affect their lives, directly and indirectly. Throughout the play, “the characters revel in the sense of wonder and also grapple with the sense of terror that comes with living a life in-between, or in the middle of two unknowable mysteries: birth and death.”

Additional performances are at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27, and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 20, 21, and 27. Advance tickets are $5 for children and students and $15 for regular admission. All tickets are $20 the day of the performance. Purchase online, by phone at 419-372-8171 or at the Wolfe Center for the Arts ticket office, which is open noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
