In Brief: November 9

IKTUS Combo melds classical, rock ‘n’ roll in eclectic mix

IKTUS Combo, a quartet of saxophone, piano, guitar and percussion, will perform at BGSU Nov. 16. The group includes saxophonist Erin Rogers, who received her master of music degree from the University in 2005. Part of the Music at the Forefront series sponsored by BGSU’s MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, the free concert begins at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center.

The combo is a slick combination of classical music and straight up rock ‘n’ roll. Smart, gritty, elegant, head-bopping – a chamber group of today, comfortable in electric and acoustic worlds. Along with Rogers on saxophone, the combo includes Jay Sorce on guitar, Andrea Lodge on piano, and Chris Graham on percussion.

In 2012, IKTUS presented compelling debut concerts at New York City’s Galapagos Art Space and Brooklyn College. Since then, it has continued to perform locally while touring beyond the five boroughs to schools such as the University of Kentucky and University of Tennessee. Although repertoire for the full quartet is abundant, the flexible ensemble breaks down into smaller groupings – featuring duos of acoustic guitar/piano and saxophone/percussion. The performers, each highly skilled in his or her craft, hold performance degrees from top programs across the country.

Music at the Forefront is an annual concert series featuring performances by accomplished and innovative performers of contemporary music. For more information, contact Kurt Doles at the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music at 419-372-2685 or kdoles@bgsu.edu.
